Tinners: 7 frequently asked questions
What do you want to know about Invisalign aligners?
We atVoeva Dentalrealize that often the impression and feedback from our patients is among the most useful information. In the video you can watch what a girl of 11 and her mother, our patients, share about wearing aligners. You can also read similar useful information in the publication.
How do tinners work and what is the process of making and wearing one?
Clear aligners, like Invisalign, are made to straighten your teeth and change your bite. They put pressure on your teeth and move them in the right direction. Unlike braces – they can be removed (and you must do so when you eat), and need to be worn on an average day, about 20-22 hours in total.
The first step in starting your aligner treatment is an orthodontic analysis. At the Voeva Dental Clinic, this is done with the latest technology – the iTero 5D NiRi scanner, which is suitable even for pregnant women and young children. Additionally, you will need to take X-rays, which the doctors at the clinic will inform you about, as they also need to see the location of the roots of your teeth.
Once the orthodontic analysis is ready, the second step follows – discussion of the treatment plan. You can see live what changes are expected to occur as a result of wearing aligners and proceed to ordering.
Making your tinners doesn’t take long, within about 2 – 4 weeks you will receive your first pairs. Next, you will visit the clinic to have the procedure of positioning the attachments (small “pimples” of photopolymer that are almost invisible on your teeth, but are extremely necessary for the proper movement of your teeth) and placing the aligners.
How long does the treatment last?
The duration is different for each patient and depends on the arrangement of the teeth and the bite. Clearly, the more misaligned the teeth and the more intervention in the bite condition is needed, the longer the treatment will take. The average is about 12 to 18 months.
In the process of treatment, it may be necessary to order additional tinners, so we advise you not to focus on the exact time, but rather on the end result you are aiming for.
Cleaning the tinners
One of the most positive aspects of the liners is that they are removable. Of course, it is also necessary to clean them. The best way to clean your aligners is by keeping your mouth clean as well. Rinse with water after eating, floss whenever possible, and shower your mouth. In addition to rinsing with water, you can also wash the aligners themselves with soap or a toothbrush and toothpaste. Once a week, you can use the dissolvable tablets or crystals to clean the aligners. Overall – the cleaning process is easy and even children can handle it.
Does it hurt to wear the blinders?
The sensation of pain is subjective. Most patients do not report pain, but rather temporary tenderness and mild discomfort when changing aligners, which resolves within a day or two after the change and may reappear with the new change. Overall, the process of wearing the aligners is painless and relatively mild.

Do I need to visit the orthodontist’s office often?
Clinic visits are infrequent, yet you still need to visit your orthodontist at intervals to ensure that both he and you are progressing as planned. If you feel that an attachment has fallen out – contact the doctor to find out if and when you need to visit the surgery to have a new one fitted. Now is also the time to mention that you shouldn’t be hasty about throwing out old pairs of aligners and bringing them to check-ups. If you lose your current aligner, by all means do not wear the previous one, but put on the next set. If you do not have one, contact your orthodontist.
Are any treatments needed in the treatment process?
Depending on the alignment of the teeth, it is possible to perform periodic planned IPR, ((interproximal reduction), which is a very gentle and harmless to your teeth reshaping of the contact points in order to balance the teeth.
What happens after treatment?
A beautiful smile and properly aligned teeth and bite need care. This is the reason why your treatment is completed with so-called “retainers“, which you should wear every night for the first year after the treatment is completed, after which the wearing is reduced according to a schedule. Retainers look the same as aligners and are necessary to stabilize the result achieved.
